about me
I'm a Ph.D. student in International and Comparative Education. At the broadest level, my interest is in immigrant students (or students from immigrant families) and their experiences in K-12 classrooms. My current research focus is on Muslim youth in American high schools. I'm also interested in the politics of representation, so I spend a lot of time thinking/talking/writing about cultural anthropology, high school history textbooks, pop culture, and the media. (This is also how I justify watching so much television.)
I've spent the last eight years in Boston, working for nonprofit organizations in the area of education and youth development.
about the name 'KufiGirl'
A kufi is a prayer cap worn by Muslim men. A couple years ago I started guest blogging at my friend HijabMan's site, and wanted a muslimah complement to his tongue-in-cheek gender-bending username. (He said I should have been "KufiWoman," but that really doesn't sound as good, does it? Plus I'm trying to preserve my youth.)

'Fo' is a nickname I acquired in elementary school. '.fo' is the official domain of the Faroe Islands, a self-governing region of The Kingdom of Denmark.
