It came up at lunch today, and while people weren't saying anything explicitly, they were skating right on the line of "crazy Muslim barbarism" so I was very glad to have this post in my pocket. It enabled me to say that I thought the beheading and the religion were red herrings, and I tried to re-frame it in the context of American violence against women. I am so glad this entry was my first exposure to the topic. I found the whole tone of media coverage surrounding this event to be extremely distorted. So far I've yet to see anything distinctly "Islamic" about this particular crime, and obviously the whole disgusting practice of "honor killing" has no basis in Islam (after all, non Muslims engage in it as well). Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the topic of "honor killing" even comes in the Qur'an! Very well said!
